III. COMMITTEE REPORTS

Cookbooks - Otley reported: one cookbook was sold at the girls kickoff meeting; many books remain to be sold; several local stores may begin selling the books next summer; and a co-chair, preferably a girls parent, is needed to help coordinate the cookbook fundraiser. Anyone interested should contact Otley or Bowden.

Middle School Dances - Stevenson reported the first two dances of the year raised a combined $1,400 in revenues.

Girls Sanctioning - Bowden reported Steve Hull has drafted a fund-raising letter to send to girls’ alumni and parents of current girls skaters to raise money for a contingency fund. Harris added that the program is moving forward under the assumption that the Maine Principals Association does not have letters from the required 10 schools to make girls hockey a varsity sport this season.

Caribbean Raffle - Godin and Swan reported: the 250 tickets are available and will sell for $50 apiece; many of the boys tickets have yet to be distributed to parents.

IV. PROGRAMS

Girls - Hawkins reported: 21 skaters are currently registered for the girls program and another three or four may be added; the team has a 20-game schedule planned plus a scrimmage and the Dudley Cup contest; the team is seeking additional practice hours; four hours have been returned to the middle school and junior-varsity programs; 20 teams have registered for the girls league this year, although Cony High School has dropped its squad; Greely will play in Tier I of the girls league; practice starts Nov. 17 and the first regular-season game is scheduled for Dec. 3 versus Winslow; the

playoffs begin the first week of March 2006; the full schedule is posted on the web site; the efforts of Nick Knight, though he is no longer involved directly in the program, have been key to the success of the girls program over the past five years; Nate Whaling is returning as assistant coach and Gordie Scannel has been added to the coaching staff. Nelson added that 10 of the girls players are first-year skaters, although a couple are trained figure skaters.

High School Boys Varsity/JV - Mothes reported: boys registration was held Nov. 8; 32 players were expected to attend the first practice, scheduled for Monday, Nov. 21; the 34-game schedule, which includes a number of tournament games, may be the program’s best schedule ever; the junior-varsity schedule currently includes 18 games and may add a couple more; varsity players will

skate five to six times per week; most junior varsity players will skate two to three times per week; the teams will play four varsity games and a junior-varsity game the weekend of the Greely Icebreaker Tournament scheduled for Nov. 25-26; off-ice conditioning sessions will be conducted an average of twice weekly following on-ice practice; and the junior-varsity squad has obtained additional jerseys this year.

Middle School - Stevenson reported: the middle school played its first game in mid-November; and the two teams include 32 skaters and two goalies.

V. NEW BUSINESS

Alumni Fund - Bowden reported: boys alumni have pledged $1,600 toward the alumni fund; a post-game reception at the Family Ice Center Pond House will follow the Dec. 28 alumni/varsity game; and an alumni page is being developed for the Greely web site.

Dudley Cup - Bowden reported: the annual event will be Saturday, Dec. 31 this year since the traditional Jan. 1 date falls on a Sunday and high school games are not allowed to be played on Sunday; the tournament schedule is Middle School B, 12:10 p.m., Middle School A, 1:20 p.m., Junior Varsity 2:30 p.m., Girls 3:40 p.m., Boys Varsity, 5 p.m.; and Falmouth Boosters is the host organization this year.

Middle School Girls Participation in High School Practice - Several parents mentioned they were seeking permission from the athletic director to allow middle school girls to skate at practice with the girls high school team. Hawkins said he would welcome the middle school girls at practice, would charge them about $5 per session and could work them comfortably into the practice program. Further action will await a decision from Athletic Director Mike Griffin, who needs to look into insurance considerations.

Yearbook - Harwood reported: more ads have been received at this time than in any previous year for the yearbook and game-day program; the girls have generated just two to three ads at this point; nine pages of ads have been sold for the game-day program and 20 ad pages for the yearbook; the art work will hopefully be completed by Dec. 1.
